Most businesses on the Outer Banks include a MP marker such as MP 5 or MP11.5 to clerify their lacation. This system of navigation has been a standard used by the locals and visitors for decades. Before the building boom on the OBX, the lanscape was a vista of mirrored sand dunes. The markers clarify indicated where you were on the Banks. The foot of the Wright Bridge at Kitty Hawk is MP 0. The markers are posted in mile increments and continue south to MP 20 near Oregon Inlet. The route from Southern Shores to Corolla does not have mile post markers.Advertising
